General VPS Questions
What is VPS hosting and how does it differ from shared hosting?
A Virtual Private Server (VPS) provides dedicated CPU, RAM, and storage resources within a virtualised environment. Unlike shared hosting where hundreds of websites compete for the same resources, your VPS has guaranteed allocations that aren't affected by other users. This means consistent performance, better security through isolation, and the ability to install custom software and configure your server environment.
What is the difference between managed and unmanaged VPS?
With a managed VPS, our team handles server administration including OS updates, security patches, firewall configuration, backups, and monitoring. You focus on your website or application while we manage the infrastructure. With an unmanaged VPS, you get full root access and complete control, but you're responsible for all server maintenance. Unmanaged plans are ideal for experienced sysadmins who want maximum flexibility at a lower price.
How quickly is my VPS set up after ordering?
Linux VPS instances are provisioned automatically within 45-60 seconds of payment confirmation. Windows VPS instances take approximately 2-3 minutes due to the additional OS setup. You'll receive your login credentials via email immediately after provisioning is complete.
Do you offer a money-back guarantee?
Yes, all VPS plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied with our service for any reason, request a full refund within 30 days of your initial purchase. The refund is processed within 5 business days. This applies to new orders only, not renewals.
Where are your data centres located?
We operate from two Tier IV data centres in the United Kingdom: our primary facility in Docklands, East London, and a secondary facility in Trafford Park, Manchester. Both facilities feature redundant power, cooling, and network connectivity with 24/7 on-site security.
Technical Questions
What virtualisation technology do you use?
We use KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) virtualisation, which provides true hardware-level isolation. Each VPS runs its own dedicated kernel with guaranteed resources. KVM is widely regarded as the gold standard for Linux virtualisation, offering superior performance and security compared to container-based alternatives like OpenVZ.
Can I install custom software on my VPS?
Yes, all VPS plans include full root (Linux) or administrator (Windows) access. You can install any software that is compatible with your chosen operating system, including web servers, databases, programming languages, control panels, Docker containers, and custom applications. On managed plans, you can also request our team to install software on your behalf.
Which operating systems are available?
For Linux VPS, we offer Ubuntu (20.04, 22.04, 24.04), Debian (11, 12), AlmaLinux (8, 9), Rocky Linux (8, 9), CentOS Stream (8, 9), Fedora (39, 40), Arch Linux, and openSUSE. You can also upload custom ISOs. For Windows VPS, we offer Windows Server 2019 and 2022 with genuine SPLA licences included.
Do you support Docker and Kubernetes?
Yes, Docker and Docker Compose can be installed on any Linux VPS. For Kubernetes, we recommend a minimum of the VPS 4 plan (4 cores, 8 GB RAM) for single-node setups. Multi-node Kubernetes clusters can be built using our private networking feature to connect multiple VPS instances over a VLAN.
What kind of DDoS protection do you provide?
All VPS plans include always-on DDoS mitigation capable of filtering volumetric attacks up to 1 Tbps. Layer 3/4 attacks (SYN floods, UDP amplification, etc.) are scrubbed at the network edge before reaching your server. Layer 7 application-level protection is available as an add-on for managed plans.
Billing & Account
Can I upgrade or downgrade my VPS plan?
You can upgrade your VPS at any time with zero downtime. CPU, RAM, and storage are scaled live through the control panel. Upgrades are prorated for the remainder of your billing cycle. Downgrades can be requested through a support ticket and take effect at your next renewal date.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, UK bank transfer (BACS/Faster Payments), and cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin). Annual plans can also be paid by invoice with NET-30 terms for established business customers.
Do prices increase at renewal?
No. We do not use introductory pricing or bait-and-switch renewal rates. The price you sign up at is the price you continue to pay at renewal. If we ever need to adjust pricing, existing customers are grandfathered at their original rate for the life of their service.
Migration & Support
Do you offer free migration from my current host?
Yes, free migration is included with all managed VPS plans. Our engineers will transfer your websites, databases, email accounts, and configurations from your existing host with minimal downtime. For unmanaged plans, migration assistance is available as a one-time £49 service. Simply submit a migration request with your current host's details and we'll handle the rest.
What are your support hours and response times?
Technical support is available 24/7 via phone, live chat, and email. Critical issues (server down, security breach) receive a response within 15 minutes. General support tickets are answered within 2 hours. Managed VPS customers receive priority routing with faster response times. Sales and billing support is available Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm GMT.
Do you provide backups?
Managed VPS plans include automated daily backups with 14-day retention stored on separate infrastructure. One-click restore is available through the control panel. For unmanaged plans, automated backups are available as an add-on from £2/mo. We also support on-demand snapshots so you can capture your server state before making changes.
